If elected, what would you do differently than your opponent?
It is not at all clear to me what my opponent would do if elected, so I will not speak to that.
If elected, I will continue to work to make Fitchburg ever more
beautiful, livable, and sustainable for all residents, now and in the
future. I will continue to work for:
Complete, compact, and connected new neighborhoods
Environmental (including climate) protection
Fitchburg's first municipal library
Metro bus service improvements
Better bicycle and pedestrian facilities
A regional transportation authority
High-capacity public transportation
Farmland preservation
Local government efficiency and transparency
What is the biggest challenge facing the city council, and how would you address it?
Our energy market (peak oil) and environment (global warming) are changing as rapidly as our economy. The Common Council's challenge is to prepare city government and the public for the dramatically changed world of the future, where our attention is on food security and clean air and water, where our economy is more local, and where we will strive to come into a sustainable balance with each other and with the natural systems on which life depends.
